DAY 0 - Push the RESTART Button of Your Life
All of us had these moments when all we wanted to do is to PUSH (the invisible) RESTART button of our lives. We feel hopeless of the situation. The pressure, the tasks, the expectations, and almost everything around us, suffocate us and cripple us in performing our best.
Remember my post on So I Entered the Wrong BPI Pin Thrice?! That experience was so frustrating to me back then. I don't know what to. I need my money and because of that especially serious mistake of forgetting my PIN, I was forced to WAIT. If only I could just restart everything and change the situation.
I know that most of you had those moments too... Maybe even bigger problems than the example I gave above. Problems that at this moment, you have no idea how to deal with. However, you can still rebuild your life and start anew. You can still begin again and look forward for a better tomorrow. And for Day 0 of 14 Day Productive Living Challenge... I will teach you how.
"I want to RESTART"
You may have spoken that phrase before or more than you could ever known and remember. The wanting to restart phase has a whole lot of triggers. In my post, Reasons Why I Quit My Job, I laid down about 4-5 reasons why all I wanted to do at that point in my life is to find a new job and start over.
The triggers that could affect us to wanting to RESTART can either be any of the points below:
- HURT. Someone or something caused you so much hurt that the only thing that could make you happier is to learn to restart your life. If you notice, girls will change their hairdo dramatically and its always a symbol of "I am moving on" stage. Once we get hurt we experience more than just anger. It is the overwhelming product of regret, pity and resentment.
- SADNESS. When you are not happy anymore in what you are currently doing, there is a big chance for you to wanting to restart. You feel the total depression on the situation and just wanting to have be at a much better state.
- LOST. Out of all the triggers of wanting to RESTART, this is the hardest one to conquer. When you lost someone in your life, you undergo different stages of emotions. It creates a wound that's deeper than one could have imagined. Not everyone can have the same understanding of what you are feeling for lost is a personal thing. You may seem happy in the outside, but inside you are crushing to pieces.
Regardless of what you are feeling right now, I want to encourage you that there is still a new life waiting for you. To begin again is hard, but trust me...it will be worth it. You'll become better and stronger. As they say, "Love is sweeter the second time around, so is your life".
STEP 1. Jot down what you are feeling. Make a love letter to yourself or much better to God and pour out what's in your heart. Try to be very personal and very open in the letter. Write as if you are speaking to close friend or confessing to an authority. The idea of writing your thoughts is to be able to release it from your heart and from your mind. That way, you have a physical reminder of the situation you are dealing with.
STEP 2. Have a solid plan. Big decisions in life has to be planned out intelligently in order to progress. Think of what the next action should be. The solid plan will guide you step by step in becoming one with your goal. The plan should include the process on what you want and the steps and risks that you have to do in order to achieve it. If you are not happy with your current job and all you want to restart then the first thing you need to do is to talk to your manager of your desire to quit. He/she could talk to you and negotiate some terms. If in case the negotiation failed then the next step is to file a resignation and so on and so forth. Have a guide in this big life changes you will be doing.
STEP 3. Accept that you will be starting all over again. The reason that many fail to push the restart button of their life and end up just going with the flow and living in a life they don't want in the first place is, PRIDE. Don't be afraid of the criticisms others will tell you. This time lower your pride and adjust your perspectives in the new situation. It doesn't matter whether you are starting from scratch. What matters most is that you are standing firm with your decision.
STEP 4. Remember the things that you need to be thankful for. Always look for the brighter side of the situation. I remember the article I read on a magazine when Alex Gonzaga (sister of Toni Gonzaga) was showing this note on her bedside table. It has a list of everything that she is thankful for. From the people around her to the material things that she owns. I believe this is a good habit to adopt. Spend 10-15 minutes just to write everything that you have to be thankful for. The talents that you have, the family that you are with and so on. That way you'll realize that your life is a gift from God.
STEP 5. Have action. If you want it, go for it. Don not let others stop you from reaching your goals and your dreams. Restarting your life should start from YOU. How badly do you want it?! Always have action that delivers result.
Just some additional notes that could help you.
Always remember that
- Starting over is about creating and reaching your new goals. You have to move forward with your goals in life.
- Starting over is not quitting or accepting defeat over the situation. It is making a new beginning.
- Starting over is scary in the beginning but again... It will be worth it.
- Starting over is possible. All you have to do is to choose to start over in the first place.
- Starting over is all about that happiness that you needed in your life.
