What is Bullet Journal?

Bullet Journal is an analog note-taking system introduced by Ryder Carroll. As our mind is filled with ideas that needs to be processed on a day to day basis, Bullet Journal takes the note taking on a much higher level. It is set to capture what’s in our mind the moment we thought about it and just place it in a simple system and let’s us organized them by categories making us efficient and productive at the same time.

Watch the video below posted by the Bullet Journal creator.

I’ve been obsessed with planner for the longest time and I am a fan of over decorative setup. Choosing the Bullet Journal for 2015 is a big decision for me because it calls for simplicity. All you need is a notebook and pen and you can easily generate a planner.

Bullet Journal Basics

Bullet Journal gets its name from creating bullets. There are three main indicators that you need to be familiar with. A Checkbox for tasks (you can mark check for completed tasks and mark cross for incomplete), an Open Circle is used to denote an event (you can put a check for events that occurred already or cross out if cancelled, and a Simple Bullet is for notes or things that you need to remember.

Here’s a picture of other indicators that you can use on your planner.

An Index is the very first part of your bullet journal. This serves as the table of contents. This also means that you need to put a page number on every sheet of the notebook you are using. Don’t worry because though it may feel like time-consuming, it will save you so much time in the future because you have an easier way to find out where you notes were.
Once the Index is complete you can have your Monthly Page. Again as simple as it is you just write down the month of the year as the title and list all of the dates with the corresponding day of the week.

The Monthly Page is where you will store all of the specific event, dates to remember, holiday that will occur, travel plan and so on. It is a useful way to have a quick glance on how your month will be.

On the next page is the Monthly Tasks. You need your main bullets (indicators) for this page. You just basically write every tasks that you need to accomplish for the particular month. Remember to leave a space to write down whether the tasks is moved or migrated.

Now that you have the Monthly Page and Monthly Tasks, you are ready to create your Daily Tasks. Spend at least 15 mins a day to just write down the things that you need to do for the said day from the moment you wake up until before you fall asleep. Your indicators are a must in this.

Make sure to List 5-7 Tasks for the day followed by an Event whether you will go to a friend’s birthday, or attend a movie festival or spend a date with your gf/bf and followed by your notes from the blogs you’ve read, ideas or special quotes.

When you go back to a particular date you can easily know what you did and it will surely be an on point list of everything and just anything that happened on that particular date.

Another thing that the bullet journal offers is a Collection. You can have a collection of your goals, books you want to read, places you want to see, expense log and a whole lot more. The only exception that will happen as you go through your bullet journal is the lack of new pages to write with.

If you can find a notebook that’s way thicker than the usual then that would be good. There are also refillable notebooks that will do the trick way better. Another tip is to fully research about how others create their bullet journal. You can find a lot of inspiration on Pinterest! (Oh, I just love Pinterest so much).

The Bullet Journal serves as your one and only go to notebook to just dump everything that’s on your mind. It is simple to use and easy to follow. The only limit is your imagination.

What’s your opinion?! Do you find the Bullet Journal appealing?
